Loan for Foreigners in Korea After a Job Change: Employment and Income Document Checklist

If you are preparing a loan consultation after changing jobs or while on probation, keep your current employment records, salary payments and tax-period evidence separate. Explain which employer and period each document actually covers, then ask the bank what its current product requires. Eligibility varies by bank, and final approval depends on the lender's review; organizing documents does not establish eligibility.

For the broader starting point, see Loan for Foreigners in Korea: What to Check First.

A practical order for checking your documents

Start with the dates shown in your own records. Note when your previous job ended and your current job began, and whether the documents mention a probation period. Keep an unconfirmed date marked as unconfirmed rather than filling the gap from memory. Do not add employment at a previous company to your current company's employment period yourself.

If there was a gap between jobs, or payment dates overlap, write down a question about that difference. This is a way to explain the record accurately, not a prediction of how a bank will assess a gap or probation. Ask which documents are needed before requesting them through their normal issuing channels.

You can organize your notes into three groups: previous employer, current employer, and dates still to confirm. Include each document's name and issuing organization. There is no need to post your real account number, identity details or contact information in a public comment or chat.

Read the employment certificate rather than its file name

Check what your employment certificate actually states, such as the employer, employment start date and issue date. Ask the bank which form and information it needs. If a required item is missing, ask the issuing department for an appropriate document after confirming the requirement; do not alter the certificate yourself.

An issue date and an employment start date are different. A recently issued certificate does not mean that you recently joined the company. Equally, an older certificate should not automatically be treated as evidence of your current circumstances. Check the bank's current official requirements for the consultation you are preparing now.

If a document is in another language, ask whether a translation or particular submission format is required. A template completed by you is not automatically an officially issued employment certificate.

Separate the salary payment date from the work period

A deposit date shows when money arrived. By itself, it does not tell you which employer paid it or which working period it covers. Compare the payment with the salary-related records you already have, then note the payer, payment date and period you can explain.

A previous employer's delayed salary may arrive after you start a new job. Do not combine payments into one employer's salary simply because their dates overlap. Ask the actual payer about unclear entries, and keep unexplained payments pending rather than labeling them as confirmed income.

The bank should tell you which transaction evidence and format it needs. This article does not determine whether you may redact an account statement or whether a complete transaction record is required. Confirm the requested scope and delivery channel first. Personal transfers or refunds must not be relabeled as salary.

Check the tax period on an income certificate separately

The National Tax Service's public income-certificate application guidance includes a field for selecting the tax period. When reading your own certificate, identify the period it covers instead of assuming that it describes your current employment.

Your present employment record and a tax certificate may cover different periods. Explain that difference rather than presenting them as evidence of the same period. Do not change the stated tax period or combine older and newer employer records into a replacement certificate yourself. Ask the bank which period and document it needs, then use the official issuing organization.

The same National Tax Service guidance describes Korean and English issuance options. Confirm the receiving institution's language requirement before choosing an option. Availability of an English certificate does not establish loan eligibility or complete the lender's income review.

Turn differences between records into questions

When company names, periods or payers differ, note the difference and ask the issuing organization for an explanation. Do not immediately call the records incorrect. An employment certificate could describe your current employer, a payment could come from your previous employer, and a tax certificate could describe an earlier tax period.

A useful consultation question is: "These documents cover different periods. What additional evidence do you need for my circumstances?" Do not calculate an unverified monthly income as a confirmed amount or guess a payment's source. If an institution asks for correction or another document, follow its normal process.

Keep original files separate from your personal notes. Notes help locate information; they do not replace a certificate. Another person's real documents should not be copied or presented as your own.

The existing English loan preparation guide can help you organize broader questions without replacing the bank's review.

Keep identity and residence checks separate

The Ministry of Justice describes the foreign registration card as a public identification document issued to foreigners who have completed foreign registration. Its identity-document role should be distinguished from the bank's requirements for a particular loan consultation.

Visa status alone does not guarantee approval. Having an identification card is not a conclusion that you can use a specific credit product. Ask the bank which identity and residence-related documents it currently requires, and check your own current records through normal personal procedures.

Document images can contain sensitive information. Use the institution's designated channel instead of sending them through public comments or open chat. If a phone call or message asks for documents, verify the request using the institution's official contact details.

Explain the records before asking for a universal minimum period

This checklist cannot set a universal minimum employment period after a job change or during probation. Explain your current employment start date, actual payment history and the periods covered by your documents, then ask about the current product's requirements. Conditions discussed for another product or at an earlier consultation should not be carried over automatically.

  • "I have separated current and previous employer documents. Which records do you need?"
  • "The salary payment date and the income-document period differ. How should I explain that?"
  • "Is there anything in the current product requirements I should check about probation?"
  • "What are the exact names, issuing organizations and submission channels for any additional documents?"

Record the institution, consultation date, product name and remaining questions. Receiving an explanation is different from submitting an application or receiving a decision. Do not insert unverified interest rates, limits or a ranking of banks by supposed approval chances.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add my previous employment period to my current job's period?

Keep the two periods separate in your preparation notes. Ask the bank how it assesses the actual records for its current product instead of combining them yourself.

Does a recent employment certificate prove that I just started work?

No. The issue date and employment start date are separate fields. Read the actual entries and ask about missing or unclear information.

Is the date a salary reaches my account the same as the work period?

It does not establish the work period by itself. Compare the payment with your own salary records and confirm unclear details with the payer.

Should an English income certificate replace every Korean document?

Confirm the receiving institution's requirements. The National Tax Service's Korean and English issuance options do not decide which other documents the bank needs.

Does having a foreign registration card settle loan eligibility?

It is an identity document, not a loan decision. The lender must assess the applicable requirements and your actual circumstances.

When is document preparation complete?

Preparation means you can distinguish the employers and periods, locate the original evidence and explain the questions still awaiting answers. It does not mean that every requirement has been met. Compare the bank's requested list with the files you have, leaving missing or unconfirmed items pending.

Keep the original records when new information arrives, and add a dated note rather than overwriting them. For a broader review of the consultation starting points, return to Loan for Foreigners in Korea: What to Check First.

The examples here organize records and questions; they are not a real customer's approval story. Record preparation, application, additional checks and the final decision only when each step has actually occurred.
